SIMPLE & SURGICAL TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
Removal of a tooth from the mouth is known as Dental extraction. Extraction of tooth or teeth are done for various reasons-including decayed tooth that is non-restorable because of destruction of enough tooth structure. Impacted or wisdom teeth that is creating problems are removed or extracted. Some permanent teeth are also extracted to make space for orthodontic treatment.
But amongst all the most common reason for tooth extraction is damage because of decay as patients neglect in initial stage of decay in which it can be restored/ saved.
WISDOM TEETH?
Wisdom teeth commonly known as third molars. These are the last teeth to erupt. Generally it erupts in late teens or early twenties. Commonly observed that it erupts generally in late adulthood. It’s an asset if it erupts smoothly & without any interruption. Generally it doesn’t erupts properly as generally it is not in proper eruption position so needs to be extracted. If they are poorly aligned and not diagnosed on time or proper care is not taken, then they can damage the adjacent teeth also.
CAN WISDOM TOOTH CAUSE PROBLEMS?
If Wisdom tooth is impacted, ie wisdom teeth remain intact in the soft tissue or bone or sometimes partially in both and partially break or erupt through gums.
If they remain partially open, then the chances of bacteria entering the tooth are high which may cause infection & lead to the swelling in the jaw, pain and general illness.
Total there are 4 wisdom teeth two in upper jaw and 2 in lower jaw.
Nowadays because of changes in lifestyle people do not get wisdom teeth, as jaws do not develop completely & properly which can allow the wisdom teeth to erupt.
IS THERE A NEED TO EXTRACT/REMOVE WISDOM TEETH?
Until & unless it is not causing any problem it is not required to remove/extract case tooth is impacted or causing crowding than it has to be removed.
SYMPTOMS TO GET WISDOM TEETH REMOVED
- Pain behind molars which can increase with time.
- Redness, swelling, tenderness which can lead to infection.
- Because of food lodgment in the impacted/partially erupted wisdom teeth/third molar foul breath & bad taste is also complained by some patients.
- Jaw pain and stiffness.
SHOULD WISDOM TEETH BE REMOVED?
Your Dental Doctor/Dentist is the right person who can diagnose or guide you whether Wisdom teeth should be removed or not in case of any problems. As impacted wisdom teeth can lead to –Crowding, damage to adjacent tooth, Sinus Issues Gum Problems.
